The bishop of Lichfield has some very strange friends. No, not because they’re gay, but because – according to the BBC anyway – they apparently say strange things like:
Most of my gay friends would want to distinguish between marriage, which is something that happens for a man and a woman, and a civil partnership, which allows you to be committed together in a kind-of household for life with your gay partner.
I’m always a bit nervous when a leading figure in a misogynistic bigotted organisation claims to have gay friends – more so when he claims to speak for them. Look again at the comparison
…distinguish between marriage, which is something that happens for a man and a woman and a civil partnership, which allows you to be committed together in a kind-of household…
So, presumably, a marriage is a perfectly normal relationship which can result in a proper household, and the bishops “gay friends” are quite happy to have their relationship described as a “kind-of” household.
